Story by The Chairman
2006-12-12

The Boundary Park ticket office has reported heavy demand ever since tickets for the Brighton and Northampton games went on sale for just £2 for adults and £1 for children. The upper tiers of both the Horners main stand and New Start Mortgages stand (Broadway) are already sold out for the Brighton game on Saturday. Athletic owner Simon Corney is delighted with the response shown by the fans. Only last week, Mr. Corney had a pop at some season ticket holders who had phoned with complaints about the offer. They felt that they were losing out as they had already paid for their tickets and many had been abusive to the office staff at Boundary Park.

Mr. Corney said: “An overwhelming majority of fans have been supportive since I had my little rant. That has been great to see, and it shows people are fully behind the club, as well as happy with our plans for the next two games. You can never do everything right, but I was amazed at the people who shouted and screamed when we were trying to build up really good crowds. I draw the line at supporters abusing staff, and the reduced admission prices are designed to make Oldham Athletic better. The great response we've had shows that our hard-core fans have the best interests of the club at heart. I want to thank everyone for their support and encourage the people of Oldham to come along and see the team John Sheridan is building."

"I'm very pleased. It's nice that people are responding. Hopefully the team can continue to perform well. I hope fans will continue to buy their tickets in the numbers they have been doing, and we need people to get through the turnstiles and continue backing this club if we're to realise our vision for the future. There's some very difficult games coming up. I'm one of these people who thinks that things won't pan out fully until after Christmas. I think it will become clearer at the end of February, as at the moment we've got ten or eleven teams fighting for six spots."
