The 2-1 success against West Ham United at the County Ground came at the 14th time of asking in what would prove to be Northampton's one and only season at the summit of the game.
It also lifted the Cobblers off the foot of the table, as can be seen here and Town did go on to win 9 more Division One matches during the 1965/66 campaign but were relegated at the end of it.
