As the search begins for Aidy Boothroyd's permanent successor, assistant manager King has the task of trying to keep Town's heads above water in League Two.
That begins at Burton on Thursday with the Brewers currently occupying a play-off place after a seven game unbeaten run.
To increase the options available to him for the busy festive period, King has recalled Ben Tozer, Matty Harriott and David Moyo from their loan spells although Stuart Dallas is now back at Brentford.
