Boost For Football League Clubs As Loans Stay

The system allowing loan signings outside of the two transfer window periods, which operates in the Football League and non-league in England, was due to be scrapped at the end of the current season but a one year extension has been granted.

"It is encouraging news and I'm sure Football League clubs will welcome Fifa's decision to extend the existing loan arrangements for a further 12 months," said Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey."

Northampton manager Aidy Boothroyd has taken the opportunity to sign loan players on a number of occasions this season after the closure of the August transfer window and it could be argued that the men he has brought in have kept him in a job and helped begin the process of turning the Cobblers' season around.
