Boothroyd's transfer plans bear fruit

Saturday's win against AFC Wimbledon saw another goal for summer signing Alex Nicholls while fellow newboy Chris Hackett also got his name on the scoresheet.

The bulk of the manager's transfer moves in the close season were to beef up his attacking options with the result that Town, if they keep things tight at the back, feel they have a chance of winning every game they play.

'The clean sheet is the most important thing for me because we're always going to score goals with the team we have and what we can bring into a game from the bench,' said Boothroyd after the Dons were gradually worn down at Sixfields.

'It was important they didn't score and that we made our pressure count. We dominated in the first half and the good thing is we are creating chances and scoring goals. This team will score lots of goals, I'm sure of that.'

The visitors had spoken beforehand of the importance of dealing with Northampton's aerial threat and manager Terry Brown left disappointed that they had failed to do so.
