Calderwood encouraged by improved performance

Cobblers boss Colin Calderwood believes his side is back on track after a "much improved performance" against Notts County over the weekend. Northampton battled their way to a deserved 0-0 draw at Sixfields and they created enough chances to win the match. Here's Calderwood's verdict of Saturday's match:

"You don't win games and you don't even draw games playing like we did last week," said Calderwood. "This was a definite step in the right direction, and we can take a lot of positives from this game. Once you go ahead in a game you can go on and be comfortable. Until that first goal goes in it can be very tense, and that goal never arrived but full credit to the players as they kept going and kept going.

"We struggled to get a head of steam up in the second half because a number of decisions went against us and that was disappointing, but overall I am much happier than I was last week. The boys up front made themselves half a dozen chances and we did a lot better getting the ball into the box. We will go into next week boosted by this, and there is a real togetherness developing within the squad.

"We had a physical presence in midfield today and the longer Lee Williamson is with us, the better he will be as he gets to know our style and that of the players around him. I thought both Lee and Bertrand Cozic did well and that was another plus. I felt we needed to bring Lee off to give us fresh legs but both he and Bertrand covered a lot of ground for us."
