Hopes of a third straight league victory were blown out of the water when Clive Platt and Paul Reid scored within three minutes of each other to give Colchester a 2 - 0 half time lead.

Danny Jackman redcued the arrears in te 53rd minute but despite Northampton controlling the game there was no more scoring.
