Comfortable Start For Cobblers

Fielding five trialists including former Birmingham City star Darren Purse, Northampton Town had a gentle start to their pre-season build up with a 5-1 win against Sileby Rangers.

In very hot playing conditions Cobblers goals came from JJ Hooper after 41, 49 and 56 minutes with further strikes by Lateef Elford-Alliyu on 66 and Ian Morris four minutes from full time.

Aidy Boothroyd praised Hooper's 'quality' after the match and said that all of his trialists will be remaining with the squad for longer except Mickael Antoine-Curier.

"Mickael has got other opportunities elsewhere," the Town boss told the official NTFC website.
