The 19-year-old scored twice on his full debut for the Cobblers in the 5-2 win over Notts County in the LDV Vans Trophy in October 2005 but has failed to make an appearance this season and has been released by boss Stuart Gray.
Gray said: "Scott has left us and we wish him the very best for his future.
"He has had a few injury problems this season which have made things difficult at times but I'd like to thank him for all his efforts."
Under the rules of the transfer window Cross is now free to sign for a side below Conference level.
