Joined the Cobblers in October 1958 but had to wait until 1960 before he made his first team debut. Terry Branston was an integral part of Northamptons' magical rise from Division 4 to Division 1 in successive seasons. As the Cobblers started the slide back through the divisions he left the County ground and moved to Luton Town in 1967.

Over seven seasons he made 246 for the team and scored two goals. After Luton Town he played for Lincoln City and non league for Nuneaton Borough.

Terry was born in Rugby on July 25 1938 and died of brain cancer on December 22, 2010.
