Ex-Cobbler defender Branston dies

The Rugby-born centre-half joined the Cobblers as an amateur in 1958 and made his debut in 1960.

Branston featured 271 times for Northampton, helping them rise from the old Division Four to Division One.

In 1967, he signed for the Hatters and went on to score 10 goals in 118 appearances during a two-year spell at Kenilworth Road.

Branston played for non-league sides King's Lynn, Nuneaton, Long Eaton and VS Rugby, where he later became manager.
