Keith Hill's side travel to Sixfields on the back of three excellent victories, scoring three goals in each game away to Swindon Town and Yeovil and then at home to Lancashire rivals Preston North End last weekend.
Hill sounded a note of caution afterwards when he said: "The team at the minute is probably excelling in every department at the moment but the club will find it difficult to maintain the strides that the team's making."
'Dale were also impressive 3-0 winners in March on their last visit to Northampton as they headed towards promotion from League Two. Former Town striker Ian Henderson scored on that day and has three goals in his last two games.
