The former England international is without a club after his Sheffield Wednesday contract expired and an ambitious Sixfields swoop has been mooted.
Chairman David Cardoza told the Northampton Chronicle: "I don't know anything about it. I was quite surprised to read it in one of the papers. It was news to me.
"There's nothing it in whatsoever.
"You might see more players like that coming down to this level this summer, though."
