Praising the 23-year-old as a 'competitor', Northampton boss Aidy Boothroyd told the official club website he was delighted to see Johnson sign a new deal.
He also challenged the former Middlesbrough man to improve on the ability he has shown on his career to date and achieve a consistent level of performance.

Boothroyd has also agreed terms with Anthony Charles, the 31-year-old central defender also earning a one-year deal after impressing the manager in the latter part of last season.
