New To League Two: Newport County

Last updated : 01 June 2013 By County Ground

A play-off win at Wembley against fellow Welsh side Wrexham marked the end of a journey that had seen Newport banished to play home games in England and having to work their way back up through the non-league pyramid.

Top scorer Aaron O'Connor has been secured on a new contract after a 20-goal season and despite reported interest from higher divisions.

The 29-year-old is convinced that manager Justin Edinburgh, formerly in charge at Rushden & Diamonds, can inspire his side to even greater things after their promotion from the Conference.

Northampton and Newport have met on 81 previous occasions with the Cobblers winning 39 and drawing 14 of those games.
