Chris Wilder’s side were knocked off top spot in League Two but the Pompey clash could have gone either way and the Town squad should still be in confident mood as they prepare for the trip to York City on Boxing Day.
Jackie McNamara’s side ended a run of nine straight defeats and climbed out of the relegation zone on Saturday with a crucial 2-1 victory against Morecambe.
Northampton then have home matches against Accrington Stanley on Monday 28th December and Barnet on Saturday 2nd January.
Stanley are currently in the play-off places and have two games in hand on the teams around them while Barnet will have been buoyed by Saturday’s 4-2 victory against Crawley Town, the Bees’ first win in six matches.
