Northampton Town Versus Plymouth Argyle

Chris Wilder takes charge of Northampton Town at Sixfields for the first time on Saturday as the Cobblers host Plymouth Argyle in League Two.

Having seen his new side gain a creditable point at Cheltenham last weekend, Wilder has spent the week working with and continuing to reshape the squad he inherited.

Six new signings (Gregor Robertson and Brennan Dickenson being the latest) and the return to their parent clubs of a trio of loan players means once again that the team that runs out in Northampton shirts on Saturday will be largely unfamiliar to home supporters. That won't matter too much if the Cobblers can get a vital victory and begin the long climb away from the foot of the Football League.

Plymouth come into the game occupying a top-half position but the Pilgrims are still closer to the relegation zone than the play-off places. Manager John Sheridan told his club's official website on Friday: "He (Wilder) will have them pumped up and they will have a right go because they need to win games to get out of the position they are in."

Team News: Wilder named Friday's signing Dickenson in his starting XI alongside returning winger Chris Hackett. Home fans also got their first glimpse of new strikers Alan Connell and Emile Sinclair.

1st Half: New manager and new signings but it was the same old story in the opening 45 minutes. For the second week running, Town got off to the worst possible start as Reid put Plymouth ahead after just 4 minutes, Alessandra doubling the lead on 39.

2nd Half: The Cobblers improved slightly after the break but could not find a way back into the game and remain marooned at the foot of the table and now seven points from safety.

Updates to come on Cobblers Mad.
