Preview of Crewe Game

Last updated : 10 August 2002 By
The Cobblers have yet again been given a home tie on the first day of the season after so many years of having to wait until the Cricket season had ended during the spell at the County Ground.

Todays game is expected to be a sellout and no tickets are available for travelling fans who wish to see the 2 teams in action for the first time since the 2-2 draw back in 1994. All fans are entering the unknown with Cobblers adding 7 new faces into the new squad and with injuries taking their toll already, most of those seven will make their 1st team debut today. Crewe a side who were relegated last season will be keen to make a speedy return to the 1st Division and feature World Cup star Efe Sodge.

Likely teams:

Cobblers
Harper, Gill, Marsh, Hope, Spedding, McGregor, Trollope, Hargreaves, Stamp, Harsley, Forrester.

Crewe
Ince, Vaughan, Foster, Sodje, Wright, Sorvel, Brammer, Lunt, Ashton, Jack, Hulse.

Referee:
Trevor Parkes - Has refereed 5 Cobblers games and to date has bad been a bad omen for the club. Northampton have only taken 1 point with Parkes as ref and he sent off Chris Hargreaves in the game against Bury last season.

NTFC Online Prediction:
With so many new faces it is hard to make any sort of prediction before the season even begins. It will be a tough game for both sides so the prediction is a 2-2 draw.
