McKenzie has been a hit since joining the Cobblers, scoring five goals in three matches in October before picking up a thigh injury, but has a nagging knee problem which requires constant nurture.
Sampson said: "Leon McKenzie is fit and it's nice to have nearly a fully fit squad to choose from.
"We are constantly monitoring Leon's fitness but he is an experienced player and he knows his own body so we are guided by him a little bit as well.
"If he plays on Saturday we will see how he is on Sunday but we are just taking it a game at a time with him at the moment."
