Sampson issues Thornton challenge

The Cobblers signed the Irishman at the weekend following an impressive trial.

The midfielder had been playing for the non-league club following his sacking from Coventry last year.

Boss Ian Sampson told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo: "You don't get many second chances in football and if he wants to just mess about then he isn't going to be here very long, and there won't be many other clubs interested in him either.

"But I'm sure that won't be the case. He's had his bad times in the past six months but I know what a good player he is capable of being and we want to get him back to where he was a year ago."
