Sampson unsure on Guinan exit

Ian Sampson admits he would "have to think twice" about letting Steve Guinan leave the club due to his impressive form in pre-season.

The veteran striker was made available for transfer at the end of last term and is believed to have held talks with several interested clubs over the summer.

But four goals in six friendlies has left Cobblers boss Sampson wondering whether he can afford to let the 35-year-old leave Sixfields should a potential move materialise.

Sampson told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo: "He's a goalscorer and the goals against Nuneaton the other night were two good finishes.

"I would have thought that if anyone comes in for him now then we might have to think twice about it."
