Northampton have secured the signing of former Coventry midfielder Kevin Thornton until the end of the season.
The Irishman signed a monthly contract in January after a successful trial spell but has shown enough in three substitute appearances to persuade manager Ian Sampson to tie him down.
Sampson said: "Kevin has done well and has impressed us. "He has earned his longer contract.
"He knows he has plenty of hard work ahead of him, but I think he is making good progress and we are delighted he will be staying with us."
