Thornton outlines errors

Northampton midfielder Kevin Thornton believes his side gave Shrewsbury too much respect during their 3-1 weekend defeat.

Northampton were second best throughout the battle at Grenhous Meadow and lost out thanks to goals from Matt Harrold and a Jake Robinson (two). Thornton told Northampton Player: "We let them get on the ball and when you let teams get on the ball they can just play and the strikers were good.

"I thought the second goal was offside and once that went in it just killed the game."

Town return to action on Wednesday with a Carling Cup clash at Liverpool and Thornton added: "Obviously it will be a bonus to play at Anfield because as a lad you always dream of playing in the Premier league and against Premier League players but the most important thing is the league. We need to get back to winning ways on Saturday."
