"What a stint they put in"

A delighted Northampton boss was full of praise for his 10 man team last night after their remarkable victory at AFC Wimbledon who are certainly a side who everyone expects to challenge for promotion this season.

“I thought they really put in a stint and they really looked like they wanted to come away with the three points,” said Johnson.

“We deserved to win. Everybody did their job, everybody threw themselves in front of things and our spirit in terms of defending was fantastic.

Marlon (Jackson) got us the penalty and that was very pleasing,” he said. “He got to the ball before the goalkeeper and he didn’t have an option but to bring him down.

“We know he can do that and that’s why we’ve brought him here and it was great for him to make an impact after only 10 minutes.

“Somebody that quick often puts defenders on the back foot but he was probably 60-40 against to get to that ball and he did and won us a penalty, which was great.”

On what was a night to remember for all Cobblers fans, which has now set the standard for the rest of the season, the only negative was the serious looking injury to Nana.

The players now prepare for Saturdays trip to Moss Rose for their game with Macclesfield with confidence sky high knowing what they are able to achieve after last nights excellent performance at Kingsmeadow.
