Harrold the hero for Rovers

Matt Harrold hit a 74th-minute winner to give Bristol Rovers their first home win under boss Paul Buckle with a 2-1 victory over Northampton.

The hosts took a 28th-minute lead when Jo Kuffour controlled a Matt Gill free-kick and beat goalkeeper Sam Walker with a right-footed volley on the turn.

Substitute Adebayo Akinfenwa equalised after 64 minutes, the ball rebounding in off him as he blocked Cian Bolger's attempted clearance after a goalmouth scramble.

But Harrold secured all three points, latching onto Chris Zebroski's mis-hit shot to fire high into the roof of the net from 10 yards.

Kuffour hit a post from Wayne Brown's 79th-minute pass and Rovers were worthy winners of a high-tempo contest.

It meant a disappointing return to Bristol for former City manager Gary Johnson, now in charge of the Cobblers. But for Buckle it is six points from a possible nine and a good start.
