Cambridge United 2-2 The Cobblers

Last updated : 08 December 2002 By
There's something about the Cobblers and Cambridge meetings, they always produce goals and drama, this was to be no exception.

The home side were quickest to react in the opening minutes and took the lead in the 5th minute through Adam Tann. He headed in an Omar Riza cross, questions had to be asked of the Town defence as Tann was completely unmarked.

Stam palmost levelled minutes later but his shot was brilliantly turned away by Marshall. The home side controlled the first half and doubled their lead in stoppage time, Tann again unmarked, nodded home a header by Wanless.

The half time teamtalk by Kevan Broadhurst must have been quite harsh and the Cobblers tried to claw their way back into the game and Darryn Stamp provided a lifeline.  10 minutes into the 2nd half the Cobblers striker headed home a cross from Marco Gabbiadini.

Town were on the up and earned a replay with Stamp fed the ball through the defence and Chris Hargreaves slid the ball past Marshall to send the travelling supporters wild.

Burgess slipped in stoppage time and handed Riza a chance, but Lee Harper brilliantly saved.  The two teams will meet again on Tuesday 17th December.

Lee Harper - crucial early saves kept Town in the game.

Ref Watch
Paul Rejer really doesn't like the Cobblers.  Flashed his card at every opportunity in the first half and gave a string of mysterious decisions throughout the game.
