Cobblers 2-0 Notts County

Goals from Derek Asamoah and Ian Sampson gave the Cobblers a deserved win against a County side which offered little on the night.

Asamoah struck in the 24th minute following good work by Greg Lincoln, who was amazingly making his Sixfields debut after being signed in the close season. After latching onto Lincoln's through ball, Delboy beat the keeper from the corner of the penalty area.

Town almost made it 2-0 midway through the second half, Marco Gabbiadini scuffed his shot from 10 yards and new loan signing Lawrie Dudfield miss hit from close range.

Ian Sampson scored his first Cobblers goal for two years with eight minutes remaining, thumping home John Frains corner. This time it crossed the line, hit the back of the net and the officials recognised the fact and let us have a 2-0 lead.

Three welcome points lift Town off the bottom of the league, two points away from the safety line and gaining on arch rivals Peterborough.

NTFConline Man of the Match - Paul Harsley, give this man player of the season now! There is no point wasting time voting at the end of the season, Hars' is streets ahead!

Team Performance - Excellent! Gabbs lost his way a bit, diving and debating with the officials too much, but he kept his disapline and got on with the job in hand. Dudfield had an excellent home debut, he chased everything and ran his socks off. It was great to see the old favourites back, Frain and Sampson! Two great performances for the defenders who are Cobblers through and through.

Ref Watch - Mr Crossley was excellent, very few mistakes and seemed to backed by two good linesmen.  A nice change!

Atmosphere - A healthy crowd of 5254 for a Tuesday night (around 800 from County) provided a good atmosphere.  Town fans were excellent, getting behing the team from start to finish.
