Gills leave it late

Danny Kedwell netted an injury-time penalty to hand Gillingham, who nearly threw a two-goal lead, a 4-3 victory against Northampton.

Striker Jo Kuffour bagged a first-half hat-trick for the Gills, with the Cobblers replying through Saido Berahino.

But Northampton responded through Kelvin Langmead and Berahino's second before Gillingham were awarded a second penalty, which Kedwell converted.

Kuffour opened the scoring on 10 minutes when he volleyed in Matt Lawrence's right-wing cross before doubling the lead on the half-hour mark with a backheeled finish.

The Cobblers pulled one back when Berahino fired in from 25 yards but, in first-half injury time, Gillingham were awarded a penalty for a foul on Kuffour, who made no mistake from the spot.

Kuffour wasted a chance for a fourth after the break before Langmead reduced the deficit with a superb angled finish on 54 minutes.

And five minutes later the visitors snatched an improbable equaliser from a well-worked free-kick routine which Berahino lashed in.

But in the dying moments Frank Nouble was bundled over and Kedwell took the responsibility to give Gillingham three valuable points.
