Northampton 1-2 Burton Albion- Match Report

Burton midfielder Alex MacDonald scored a superb late free-kick to clinch his side all three points with a 2-1 win at Northampton.

MacDonald rifled in from fully 30 yards with just four minutes of the game left to play to settle the contest in favour of the visitors, who returned to the top of Sky Bet League Two.

The Brewers had earlier taken the lead through former Northampton loanee Jacob Blyth's goal on the stroke of half-time. The home side should have been in front by that stage, with winger Kaid Mohamed missing an open goal midway through the first half.

Northampton did draw level in the final 10 minutes of the game when centre-back Ryan Cresswell, who had scored his first goal for the club in the previous week's draw at Wycombe, got his second from a corner.

It was no less than Northampton deserved, but was to prove in vain as the Brewers capitalised in the final four minutes of what had been a poor match for long periods when MacDonald smacked in a long-range free-kick to secure all three points for Burton
