Cobblers draw on Taylor's farewell

The last home game of the season saw Ian Taylor hang up his boots and the Cobblers earn a draw against Huddersfield.

Boss Stuart Gray spoke after the game

"Ian Taylor deserved his wonderful reception," he said. "It was a good night for him but I was disappointed with the way we conceded the goal. We were far too deep for a set play and paid the price.

"We didn't pass the ball as well as we wanted to but the energy and commitment was there, although the two teams cancelled each other out for the most part.

"I have stressed to the players that we must not give cheap fouls away but we did and we conceded from that free kick. I thought our starting position was too deep and suddenly the ball was in the back of our net.

"Simon Cox chases everything and had a good game up front. We needed to get an extra pass in at times to release him and we didn't do that enough. We possibly lacked a little bit of composure.

"We decided that it was fitting for Ian to end on a home game and that is why he will not be involved at Doncaster next week. There were a few Villa fans here and I think they enjoyed the night.

"We have contract offers on the table to both Jason Crowe and Chris Doig. We want them to stay and have made them good offers and we are awaiting their answers. We hope they will stay but we will have to wait and see."
