The Cobblers were 20th in December but have scored 37 points since the New year to move them up to eighth.
Hinton, 32, told BBC Radio Northampton: "We've fought back as a club and we can take our confidence on.
"Whoever does well over the next six games will be in the play-offs. We've got to show our ability."
Northampton Town's run-in includes matches against four teams currently above them in the division, starting with a tie against title contenders Notts County at Sixfields on Saturday.
However, top-scoring striker Adebayo Akinfenwa is a doubt, having taken a knock to his ankle in last week's 0-0 draw against Torquay.
